Default 520 chain conversion question ?

I did a 520 chain conversion. I torqued the bolt down on the output shaft and the sprocket still has some play. I was told that the sproket, is a floating sprocket wich will alow it to slide back and forth on the shaft. Does this sound normal to anyone? I really cant stand the clicking sound's from the front sprocket.

no this is not normal. you are not suppose to have any play on your front sprocket. the only thing I can think of is that you got the wrong sprocket? Maybe for a 929 instead of a 954 which it may have the same spline count and size but the width is different. But you could damage your output shaft from your trans along with your new chain and you'll be unable to return your sprocket once it shows sign of use.

I have the only520 front sprocket Sunstar sells for the 954, so they tell me. Has anyone ever down this conversion, and wich manufactor did you use? My problem is that I had a vortec rear sprocket chrome plated and I really don't feel like buying a new rear sprocket.

Oh yeah one more thing. When I bought the vortec rear sprocket I wanted to go three teeth larger then stock. The only rear sprocket Vortec sells that sizewas for a 520 chain. Does anyone know if the make a sprocket for the 530 chain.

there is supposto be a little play back and forth on the front sprocket to allow for mis-alignment- that is done on all stock bikes... there should be no play front to back...

I wouldnt recommend using a 520 on anything over a 600 unless its race only. Anything larger than 600cc tends to chew em up to fast, and sometimes even 600s do.

the reason you have play is the original 530 chain setup is wider. Now that you went to a thinner chain setup, you need to put a thin washer on the inside and outside of the front sprocket to make up for the original thickness.

You guys must be getting cheap parts. My 520 fits great with no play.

For what its worth Playful my 520 chain is good for over 2000lbs more tensile strength than the stock 530 chain. Of course i paid dearly for it.

then its just a 520 in name and size lol. The typical 520 was never meant for street bikes, dirt race etc. I too run one tho lol.
