Default 15k Service ...... how importants is it ?

I have seen an RR3 with just over 15k on the clock but without the service being done which of course includes the value clearance. Just how important is this to be done on the nail ? The owner says the dealer says.... it sounds ok and should not be needed yet ???

Just how much does this service cost ?

Ta.

Not sure how much it costs but definitely a couple hundred...

My bike has 24,000 without getting the check at 15/16k and still runs good/strong.

The Honda dealer service boss here said
"Unless the bike has been raced, really been ridden hard like red lined often, or the engine has been beat on and abused (like in racing)... its really not that important... he said at 30k...

my first 954 was not checked until ~ 16k and it was spot on. My second 954, the one I have now, has something like 23k. I just picked up this second bike I plan on checking valve clearance this weekend.

I had mine serviced at 24k.Valves adjusted,CCT replaced, valve cover gasket and new spark plugs for a total of $400.00 of which $250.00 was in labor.I didn't feel like messing with it myself.

Cheers for all that, i will keep it in mind, looking for one at the moment as my first sports bike, so i think about £3k seems right.... saying that i have just seen on ebay a 2010, less than one year old C-ABS equipped 1000rr go for £7,100 !!!!! and thats with less than 2k on the clock... the sportsbike market has gone into freefall.

valve clearance is pretty important if it gets really bad a valve hits a piston then all hell breaks loose. If your mechanically inclined you can do it yourself in a few hours or less. Otherwise drop it and some money off at the dealer.

A Honda mechanic once told me he's seen motors with as much as 50,000 miles and valves were still in spec.

Some advice. I had a cbr 600 f3. Checked the valves at 18K all in spec. Bought an 03 954 new. It was such a bloody pain to check the valves, I made the mistake of assuming the valves would be OK as I am a conservative rider. At 40K burned one exhaust valve and all the exhaust valves and guides needed replacing. Did all the bloody work of disassembling the bike, reassembly, and learned an expensive lesson. Check the valves at least at 20K and 40K. Save yourself money and agravation.
