what mods work best
I'm not into doing motorwork at all. Everytime I've seen someone do motorwork they spend more time working and fixing it. I can understand the exhaust and powercommander but for what I do I don't need the bike to be faster. I need it to handle like a rail in any situation. So I plan on doing mag wheels, ohlins, brake lines, PC and wave rotors. Just my opinion but thanks for calling me dumb - jackass
I understand the benefit of mag wheels, don't get me wrong, but that is something that I would probably focus on in the more fine tuning stage. Never underestimate the benefits of a full exaust system though, and the power commander piece is definitely helpful. Are you going to be putting all of this together yourself?

The question asked was not necessarily about handling, and you mentioned magnesium wheels was like "doing a 520 conversion on steroids" because you lose rotating mass which will give some boost in speed performance. My point is our 929s are worth between 5,000 and 6,000, and magnesium wheels range from 2,000 to beyond 4,000. Thats borderline crazy. You mention magnesium wheels, PC, rotors, ohlins, and brake lines. All that has a potential price tag of 3,500 minimum, to well over 5,000. Sorry, opinion or not, spending the entire value of the bike itself on handling upgrades equates to a negative gain. That money could be much better spent in other areas and result in truly noticable performance gains.
Tell us exactly what are the gains to be had from magnesium wheels that warrant that kind of expense? You mention handling upgrades, but never mentioned tires, which is the most important item for handling. You can spend an infinite amount of money on suspension and whatnot, but without the right tires the improvements mean nothing. And the gains to be had from magnesium wheels in terms of handling are negligable in street use. A professional on a track may have enough benefeit to justify it, but a street rider?
Heres a better option, if you want to spend the money. Sell your 929 (lets say 5,000 on the low end) and put the money you would spend on magnesium wheels, damper, rotors, PC, brake lines, etc. (another 3,500 to 5,000) with it and buy a newer, better handling bike like a 1000RR (which handles alot better than a 929 with upgrades, not to mention a hell of alot faster out of the box). Then you have a better handling AND faster bike, thats at least worth close to what you have in it, rather than having a bike thats worth 5,000 with 5,000 worth of upgrades that you can never get the money back for. And in Birde's thread Value of my bike, you made it VERY clear that YOU feel a bike with a bunch of upgrades is worth LESS because it means it was beat. You said you would rather buy a bone stock bike. By your own theory, you would spend thousands to upgrade your 929 and in effect make it worth less to a buyer like yourself? Why?
Its simple math. Spend 5K on a bike thats worth 5k, and will still only be worth 5k when you are done, or spend the 10k on a 1000RR or R1 and have a better all around bike thats still worth 10k?

Your exactly right so why tell him to spend $3000 on engine mods if the bike isn't worth that much. If I put all i said i would put on my bike and keep the stock pieces i could remove all my aftermarket parts and sell them seperately on ebay or other such items. Sometimes buying a newer bike doesn't mean your getting all the much more. Granted some more power and little better suspension, but everyone talks about all these horsepower mods like they are going to make a huge difference in their bike but no one touchs what the power needs to go through to get to the ground, the suspension and brakes. Why do people think they need so much more power? most people can't handle what the bike has as it is even though they think they can. Hell I think the 929 has more power than i'll ever need so why add more. Doing and exhaust I can understand the stock looks horrible and mapping to adjust for that. I'm all for pimping your bike out but i'm not about who has the fastest bike or whos looks the coolest. You can have the fastest and coolest bike out there but if you can't ride it do its limits then who cares. All you have now is a potentially fast bike getting smoked by real riders that know what they are doing. Do all the mods you want by all means but if your the everyday rider you don't need to do alot or anything at that. Sure track rider or drag, mod the **** out of the bike because you are going to need it to be competitive.
The thread was started by someone asking about what mods are best. No one asked if you think a 929 is fast enough. I didn't tell anyone to spend $3000 on mods, I simply said what would be the best spending or "bang for the buck".

C'mon dude, do you really have to be so critical about things? He was just tryin to be agreeable and you keep arguin. Lets keep the peace and focus on what we are here for, to help eachother out, not tear eachother down.
