timing ?
over the winter I removed the head from my 929 in order to have a helicoil installed due to a broken header stud... to make a long story short, when i re-installed everything i followed the shop manual.. I filled it w/fluids today and started it up, at first it seemed to run fine, then it idled real choppy! If i rev it up its like its missing, and after letting off the throttle it bogs way down. I tried to ride it and it road like s**t, would barely accelerate.
So, my 1st question is..... when installling cams, i had the ignition rotor ligned up so the 1st piston was TOS, like the manual says. The timing marks on the cam gears- there are 2 marks on each cam, one says IN for intake and the other EX for exhaust, I lined the IN and its mark up with the head on the intake cam and the EX and its line up with the head on the exhaust cam..... is this right??? i hope so, but if not, i guess thats my problem!
2nd question would be, if thats not the problem can anyone think of what to check next?? Can you put the cam pulse generator in wrong, or can something else cause it to run like this?
I forgot to check and see if the MIL light flashed at all, will do that tommorow but hoped in the mean time I might get some help from you knowledgable folks!
Thanks

There is a mark on the clutch cover and a T mark on the ignition rotor. Those marks should line up, as well as your in and ex marks on the cams. You didn't take the gears off of the cams, or the pulse sensor on the end of the exhaust cam? Did you disconnect power to the power commander? Lose your map? Just some ideas. Lee.
no i didnt take the cam gears off the cams, or the pulse sensor.... as far as im aware of, the t and the mark on the clutch cover is how you know you pistons are TOS, those were ligned up as well! the power commander was disconnected, but the bike has ran fine before without the powercommander, just rich... so im not saying no, but i dont think its the power commander
