Default Stator or battery trouble maybe?

I was riding for only a mile or two today and my gauges went out, only the backlight was lit up. I turned around and the bike died about a 1/4mi from home. I had this same problem when I first bought the bike back in October. The guy selling it replaced the stator for me and had just put in a new battery. I'm thinking it's the stator again but why would it go through two of them that quickly? Has anyone else had problems similar to this or have any idea why this would happen or a way to prevent it form dying again in the future? Thanks for any advice.

you'll need to test the rectifier. i don't think it's the stator.
make sure you check the battery terminal for a tight connection too.

is the battery completely drained? if so, it could be that the rectifier isn't working properly and therefore, the stator isn't providing any charge back to the battery.

When I let it sit for a little bit all the gauges light up but it just clicks and wont turn over when I try to start it. I was able to push start it but the gauges just had the backlights, the headlight was very dim and it sounded like it was about to stall as I rode it around the parking lot so I didn't risk taking it on the road to see if I could charge the battery. I don't know where the rectifier is or how to test it w/out an ohmmeter. Any more advice? If it matters, the bike had just been sitting in a garage for 2 or 3 months waiting for me to put a new subframe on. I then put around 20miles on it before taking it over 150mi from tampa to daytona. I don't know if the long sit and then long drive could have been bad for it but it worked perfectly fine for another 50miles before dying on me.

Also, does the battery charge only when the bike is moving in gear? I really don't know but I think the stator and flywheel work together to charge the battery.

Can someone please help me out, it's so depressing to finally have my bike back and then have it die less than a week later.

I think Tahoe SC is on the right track.
I had the same problem, and in my case it was the stator, but you have a fresh one and a new battery. The regulator (or rectifier ) isn't too expensive, maybe $160 or so OEM, and is inside the tail cowl. You can get aftermarket ones or even a used one on eBay for less.

Not to worry, man. The system's pretty simple, and I think Tahoe's right - the rectifier's probably where I'd go next.

PS - the system should be charging any time the engine is running, even at idle in nuetral.

Ok thanks a lot guys. The stator replacement was actually form ebay and not new so it should either be that or the regulator. So where is the regulator on our bikes so I can see if I can figure out what the problem is without having to take it to a shop? I saw regulators for $120 on the first site I looked at so it shouldn't be too bad. Thanks a lot for your help guys, I hope to have my baby running soon so I can take her on the beach around here for the first time before school gets out.
