Starting issue
Hi, I've searched the forums but can't find a similar issue. My 2001 bike is new to me, had it since December and has the following starting issue. It turns over but always takes 3 or 4 tries before it catches and starts. This happens hot or cold. When it does start it always smells rich for a minute or so. Once running there are no issues at all, pulls strongly with no bogging anywhere. It has a fair few mods. It's running a K&N filter, stock headers, exhaust valves removed and an Ixil silencer. It also has a Power commander with a map from a very similar setup except a different brand end can. I will get it properly mapped at some point soonish. I have a new battery on it, have checked the plugs after a good run and they look okay, have pulled the vacuum from the fuel pressure regulator and there's no drips so wondered whats next to look at? Looking around the Internet I'm erring towards the fpr still but not sure?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Thanks, I don't have a fuel gauge at present, am I right in thinking that if I just remove power to the power commander the bike will revert back to running the stock settings?
thanks again, Ian.
thanks again, Ian.
Yes indeed, you can just unplug the PC and all should be well. You may also have to reconnect the O2 sensor as this may have been by-passed (generally has a tap into the exhaust) follow the wire back to make sure a resistor plug has not been inserted into the connector.
Thanks both, I finished work a bit early this afternoon so completely removed the Power Commander and it seems to have done the trick. It has started on the button instantly each time since I removed it and I took it for a quick spin and it seems fine and no fuel smell either.
The PC was quite a way down my list of things to check so very much appreciate the nudge in that direction. It's a huge benefit to not only have a forum like this for the collective knowledge it contains but it's invaluable when someone takes the time out to offer their take on someone else's problem. Thank you again.
