Starting Engine Trouble
Hey, I just bought a used CBR and I was testing it out in my driveway one night. I had some friends come over and accidentally left the key in the ignition turned on. The next morning I realized the battery was dead so I charged the CBR with my car (I know thats a really bad idea and probably shouldnt have done that). The CBR is charged now but the engine just turns. I can't get it to start. I'm not sure what happened. Maybe I caused some malfunction by jumping it with a car. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

unless i'm missing something, i don't think that using your car to jump the bike is all that bad. they are both 12v circuits. you could argue that the CCA are way different, but that is amps available, not necessarily amps drawn. anywho. why won't it start... first, have you checked all the fuses? fuel pump humming? when you turn the key with the kill switch in the run position you should hear the pump hum for about 2 seconds, then after the bike starts it should hum continuously. try that we can go from there. if you don't have a service manual see the link below.

i went downstairs this morning to try to start it, and i actually head the low rumble noise of the engine trying to start. but it only lasted a split second. the battery seems like its dying again. so i guess since its safe to charge on the car, ill go for that again. i turned on the kill switch then switched it off and i heard the noise that lasted for about 2 seconds. i guess thats the fuel pump.

try have someone push start it. you get on the bike put in second gear. have someone get behind you and push it. when you get enough speed pop the clutch. once it's running drive it around for about 45 mins to an hour. keeping the rpms between 5 to 6,000. this should charge up your battery. let us know if you have any probs with it starting after.
