on the 929 and 954 its strickly a bolt on if you're not doing a full exhaust. Now the 600's have a slip on, where you get the canister and a mid-pipe that literally just "slip on" the stock header pipe.

no difference, same effect- louder pipe. full system is the only way to get any other change is with a power commander and an air filter along with a re map of the fuel curve.
