Default Should I Trade?

Ok I have a nice Cbr 600f4i and i love it but i was hoping to move up to a bigger motorcycle and i have someone that wants to trade thier 2002 929rr for it.. Hes a good friend so he wouldent screw me over. Do you think i would enjoy the 929 more than the 600? and what are some of the better things about it.

Thanks guys no rush on this one..

Are you sure on the year model?? 2002 would make it a 954. Anyways....I think you would like the bikea lot. I've never rode a F4i, but I did own a 600 before this. The torque with this bike is SO much better. It's got a lot more power throughout the whole rpm range. It suits my riding still a lot more since I like to just cruise most of the time.

Straight up trade, huh?

Meh, it depends. What kind of riding do you do?

In any case, something to keep in mind is that you'll inherently like the bigger bike simply because you like fast things. Sure you'd have fun on it. It feels good in comparison and it's a pretty smooth adjustment as far as feel of the bike goes (F4i and 929RR). While the 929 doesn't seat you as, "comfortably" as your F4i, it certainly isn't as aggressive as say a new 1000RR, or even a 600RR in the "rider-position" sense.

I've got to know what year of F4i you have? If you've got the banana seat, then the transition of the seats alone will be a huge difference. If you've got the split seat then again, it won't be so bad. It's amazing what a seat can do! If you've got a split seat F4i, then I have to ask what is wrong with the 929 as there would be a pretty nominal price difference between the two. Or do you just have a blingin' F4i?

They're both fuel-injected. Both have 180 rear tires. The rearsets (pegs) on the 929 are positioned on the swingarm as opposed to the frame (ala F4i), that in itself is pretty wild but won't be a detriment to your enjoyment by any means. They are also going to be higher, and farther back than you're used to, putting you in a sort of, racing position.

The brakes on the 929 are going to be the second biggest difference that you'll notice. They are big, and they stop the bike very effectively. The clip-ons (handle bars) are positioned below the triple clamp on the 929 where as they are mounted above the triple on the F4i. That adds to the aggressive positioning of the rider as the outcome is a, "lower-to-the-ground" handlebar.

The power will be the first thing you notice. Take it easy, especially with cold tires. You can spin that rear quite easily and as with all liter bikes, they are less forgiving when you make a mistake with the throttle. Once warm, a properly tuned 929RR will do a, "roll-on wheelie" in 3rd gear. That means by simply rolling the throttle back (not hammering it) in a specified RPM range, the front wheel will lift quickly and easily, with very little effort from you.

Headshake, just as with the F4 and F4i, reappears in the 929 and 954's. A steering damper is not only recommended, but nearly required for any sort of performance riding on the 929. Coming out of corners or downshifting to pass on a highway aggressively can easily result in a tank slapper.

I think that should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect when hopping on the big bike. I'm still perplexed as to why he wants not only to downgrade, but take an apparent(?) loss in value?

Have fun, be careful.

^^ the 929 comes with a 190 rear tire, not 180

+1 on the year, it would be a 954

I've ridden the F4i before (used to work at a Honda dealer) had to test ride quite a few. Not to put anyone down but i couldnt believe the power difference between my 929 and the f4i, granted the f4i is a lil more compfortable but when i was on the parkway and opened it up, i was damn near shaking the bike to make it move faster.
i have no doubts that you will LOVE the 929 or 954, either way i would say go for it

I thought he had a bigger tire on that bike I just bought! It's got a 190 and to be honest, I hadn't really looked. Just figured, sue me

Didn't payattention to the year either, if it is a 954 then I'm even more curious about this trade!

Hey guys thanks for taking so much intrest here!! Well the guy that is wanting to do the trade is my Kickboxing instructor and I am currently working on the 929 right now. There seems to be a cooling problem and the wrong type of sparkplugs are in it but i havent been able to put much time on it. My F4i is a 2002 and i keep on getting confused on what year the 929 is. I think in a 2000 or 1999.. But his has small cosmetic damage and mine doesnt.. and im also getting new rotors for the f4i soon and i was going to throw them in with the trade. He wants to trade because he is afraid of the 929, but it might take some convincing to get him to trade.. So ill fix it for him and then hell owe me one what you think? Oh and i also have some time on a 929 and a cbr1100 blackbird but man if it goes through im really really gonna miss my f4i shes my first baby...

Well I talked to the guy and hes going to pay me to work on the bike until it is in good running condition.. So yesterday i did the valves and 5 of the exhaust valves had to be adjusted and I found the leak coming out of the thermostat housing.. and going to clean out the cooling system and then well make the trade =D
