Ive hooked my front end to the ceiling of a garage before using tie downs, i used my rear stand so it wouldnt tip over. works great when you need to work on your forks.

yeah but i'm worried that would weaken my swing arm strength.
You can use any universal rear stand, just make sure you get the shim. Without the shim, your bike will lean. Also, installing spools will ot weaken your swingarm at all.

anyone know the thickness of the shim i need to level the damn thing out?
