Default Main fuse blew! Need help

My 2001 CBR 929rr was fine. I parked it no problem and went to leave and there was nothing when I turned the key. I found the main 30 amp fuse blown. I replaced it and started to smell electrical burning smell. The wires to the fuse were hot and even melted part of the plug. Anyone else have this problem and where should I start troubleshooting? Any advice appreciated

@Jeremy1420 Hi and welcome to the forum. Fuses blow when too much current is drawn through it. More often than not, it's a wire that has shorted to ground, or an electrical component has gone bad and is shorted as well. The 30A fuse supplies power to 3 places primarily. 1 The Regulator/Rectifier or R/R as it's commonly referred to. 2 the Main Fuse Block. 3 The Ignition Switch. My money is on the R/R given the bikes age and that it's not uncommon for them to go bad. The R/R is on the left side of the bike below the seat. It has 2 connectors going to it, a 3P and a 4P. The 4P connector is the one that needs to be checked for shorts to ground. The 2 connectors are located inside a soft silicone bell shaped shroud to keep them protected. How are you with a multi-meter?

I’m good with a multimeter. Thank you for your useful reply. I will start checking that as soon as I’m off work. Thank you!!!

I moved this thread to the 929 section as it's specific to that and others may have additional insight into it.
