Default light smoke?

my bike slightly smokes on the first startup of the day. nothing thick or black, just a light smoke for about 20 seconds.

does this happen to you guys?

also how long do you guys let your bike warm up?

i keep getting conflicting answers from infrequent riders, so help me out guys...

My bike smokes a little first thing in the morning because its cold outside, normally goes away by the time i'm ready to ride.As far as how long to leave it well everybody is different, some will start it and take off others like me will let it warm up a little.I normally wait til its temp. reads about 130* before bliping the throttle and then taking off.

Mine smokes ever so slightly at first startup also, probanly jus condensation burning out. As for warming it up, i like to wait till around 130ish also, but if im in a rush i wait till the dash's go away and shows a number

From cold, and here cold is ambient of about 35F (2C) I get quite a lot of smoke. This is considered "normal" for this motor by them-that-know. My motor has a few miles on it (62k kms) which also contributes some. On the plus side, I just had it serviced and the mechanic, who knows this bike from new, says it is the strongest 929 he knows.

Bottom line: don't worry about it.

sounds like a valve seal to me. oil in the top of the head trickles down in to the combustion chamber after it sits for a while to be burnt on startup. i wouldnt mess w/ it unless it gets real bad. when the motor warms the seals will expand and wont let oil by.

That causes black smoke, not white.

technically its blue smoke. not black at all. black is usually exxcess fuel, ie exccesive choke which the computer would take care of in a fuel injected bike. grey not enough fuel. white is usually coolant. and io929 said he had light smoke, not specifiying a color.

+1 exactly with NY Erion929. Just a slight smoke and 130. Someone once told me it possibly is excess fuel from shutdown, but I don't ever notice it later. My 2cents.
