Default HTEV questions....

I just got my 01 929 and i have been wrenching on it to get it perfect before i play with it. I noticed when doin the oil change and various other lil odds and ends that the HTEV is totally disconnected... I assume the servo is still plugged in cause i don't get any errors on my display. will this hurt to have the cables no on it and should i run it with it open or closed since my computer won't do the work for me now thanks all in advance

I was just messin with mine the other day. I have my exhaust valve wired to stay completely open due to my after market exhaust and PCIII. As for the intake valve, I left it wired to the servo. Its normal position is to remain slightly open at idle through 3k. Then at 3k it closes the flap and stays closed until 8k. at 8k it opens completely up. I have tried leaving it open and leaving it closed and I noticed no differenece.

Do you have a powercommander? If you don't, I would hook the valve back up. If you are running stock mapping then you need the HTEV for low end power. It works in conjuction with the flapper valve in your air box to help build low end power at low revs and then opens up as you go up through the power band. I don't know if it would hurt the bike or not but the low end would suck and your gas mileage would be ****e too.

How did you wire it to stay open? I want to do the same til I get the eliminator.

I think there are lots of ways to due and there is not right or wrong way to due it.
I disconected and removed the cables from the servo to the exhaust valve. Then I turned the exhaust valve completely open and used chicken wire to tie and hold the valve in the open position.
