Default Hey guys just bought me a 929!

Hey everyone, like I said, I just bought a 2001 929RR. I found it on cycle trader and it was a sweet deal since I was looking for a project bike. This is my first bike, and it runs great and all but it has some pretty ghetto stuff that the previous owners did to it. It has flush mounts and a integrated taillight and turnsignal deal, but the guy that had it didn't have a clue how to wire anything, so the tail lights didn't work at all and flush mounts were wired wrong but they sort of worked. Plus the passenger seat was recovered yellow but it was all ripped up from one of the times it was laid down. Anyway all the wiring is fixed and I got both seats recovered even thought the drivers was alright, I wanted both new and matching, but what I was wondering was if anyone else has had any problems with there 929's shaking under hard acceleration, deceleration, and cornering. My brother has a 02 GSX-R 1000 and it seems like it is a lot more stable and not as scary feeling as mine. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should look at or replace that would be the most likely problems or are they all like that. I know mine has no steering dampener where as his does stock and that mine has aftermarket vortex clip-ons that I think are not very good since they hit the body and cant steer for nothing. Could these be the problems, if so where can I get stock clip-ons for cheap? Thanks guys.

i have an 01 929, and it definately does not shake... maybe its got a slight warp in the frame from being laid down, check there arent any buckles in the rims, warped rotors, warped forks, also, it may even pay to check the steering head bearings. steering dampers are a good idea for a 929, known for mean tank slappers at times i've been told. they are awesome bikes though... having the shakes is not a good thing though

New tires a set of 208's and all my slap went away. and they stick like glue the only slip I have had was in hard down shifting and brakeing.. my old front was cuped like hell and coused a bad shake. with the new 208's I didn't have to put on the steering damper. she doesn't shake at all now, love that bake.

Thanks alot for the info. I think tires will be my first purchase since they are worn pretty bad and I'll go from there as money permits. Thanks again!

Can't speak for no dampener since Mine has had one from day one and I love it. I wouls try tires first If money does not permit check them to see if they are balanced That could cause it to. I like the 208's too. But wanna try the qualifiers or the pilot powers Corsa' stick like glue but have a bumpier ride. If not Hae the frame and other related goods mentioned check for bends and warp.

check ebay for steering dampers there are quiet a few good ones. 929s are notorious for the head shakes and alot of the riders recommend steering dampers (ecspecially me) I noticed a huge difference. they are expensive$350 to $400 but like I said they are worth it.

Stering damper and good 208's should be the first mods you make. Those combined make a huge difference. When exiting hard out of corners I love to loft the front the wheel, na dthe damper helps to put it down nice and soft, and most especially straight.

I know the 208's are spendy but they are well worth it. one more thing that it could be is you supention is not tuned for you wieght. On my 600RR I had to slow down the rebound in the front forks and that helped, but for the 929 I would get the tires first. I love my rain or shine. the best tire I have ever road in the rain.
