i got a spare cylinder head with cams i was going to get ported and polished i'll sell or trade for, if you use heli coil im not sure how you would keep metal shavings from falling into the cylinder unless you remove the head.

To do it properly you are going to need to pull the head off. Heck i dont honestly think even if you wanted to try and cheat you could get a drill in there anyhow with the motor still in the frame.

Ask around a few local machine shops. There is a creepy tool that slips in, then cuts the threads for the coil from the inside out. Keeps the shavings out, but hard to find anyone who owns one.

Another option is to check the cam profile and find the overlap where both the intake and exhaust valves are open. Set the motor inside that angle and blow air through the intake (sealed) while you cut the threads. The shavings will be blown out the exhaust.

Either way is more risky than pulling the head, it depends if you feel the risk is worth the time savings.

I HAVE NOT DONE ONE IN A BIKE BUT I HAVE DONE PLENTY IN FORDS WITH THE 5.4S . I DONT SEE THIER TO BE A PROBLEM ON BIKES. JUST PUT GREASE ON THE TAP IT WILL CATCH ALL OF THE ALUMINUM . JUST TAKE YOUR TIME AND KEEP IT STRAIGHT AND YOU WILL BE FINE . GOOD LUCK.
