Default clutch adjustment problems

hello folks... I wonder if anybody out there with a 929 would check the position of the clutch release lever (the little arm thing with a spring on it where the clutch cable attaches on the gearbox) after the slack has been taken up. Mine is at 90 degrees to the cover exactly pointing across the engine. the reason I,m asking is because I ran out of adjustment at both ends of the cable so I bought a new cable and it uses all the adjustment exactly the same as the old one??? The bike only has 15,000 miles on the clock....surely the clutch plates could,nt of worn so much already....there is no evidence of clutch slip but the free play at the handlebar end is becoming excessive with no adjustment left.......any ideas???? cheers dave h

it's worth a look at the clutch plates... mine has about that on the odometer and my plates were on the border of spec. go grab a cheap vernier caliper from harbor freight and measure the plates. outside of skinned plates, you may have a fracturing/fatiguing shift lever. I've seen elsewhere people have their lever literally bending over time until one day it snaps and you can't shift. good luck.
