Default CBR929/954 Rebore ?

Hi Guys,

Some people have added bigbores to the 929/954, but I believe they have the Honda Composite alloy cylinders installed. So how do you get them bored & the cylinder finished ?

What is the thickness of the cylinder wall on a 929/954 ? before the big bore.

Thanks

all we do is get the top case bored, then replate the cyl walls with nikasil. 980 (76mm) is as big as you can go without the walls being too thin. i remember some guy on fireblades.org, who strictly drag raced, thinking about a 2mm (77mm) over bore, but it required a steel sleeve insert - and i don't think it ever worked.

you get your pistons, then send a piston with your top case to a company that can bore and nikasil plate. i used millenium technologies. i think that's who mika_u used too, and i'm not sure about mrsmobbins.

all those companies do is bore out the top case, then re-plate the walls with nikasil. then they bore/hone/hatch the nikasil with the special equipment they have specifically to your piston that you send with it.

everything that i got back from millennium was perfect. the wall gap, the piston ring gap, everything was spot on. it was great work. my motor has only run for a few seconds (just as a trial run), but it should be running full time by the end of the summer. mrsmobbins is up and running though. from what i understand, his is flawless too.

of course, all of the 1mm over and everything i was talking about was for the 954. if you're talking about a 929, it's a 2mm overbore to get to 76mm (980cc)

not quite sure on the wall thickness. but i know you can't go more than 2mm over with it (from a 929). there's quite a few on fireblades and now here.

Thanks Conrice, my concern was the Honda MMC type liners, but if nickasil sticks to it then that means I can get the same done here in the UK

I'll try to find a company that does this stuff with a good reputation here.

Thanks

a lot of cars use the same process. in fact, many foreign (to us - i guess) cars use this process - so you should be able to find a reputable shop in the UK or Europe that will know what to do.

Thanks Hung, Other info I have suggests that these MMC type liners can be bored & honed pretty much as per steel/iron liners, so long as they are cool bored !

Cheers
