Default case questions

when i purchased my bike i had to replace the stator because the squid who had it before me layed it down and it went out... well when i took the cover off i see that he had a chip in the case of the bottom block... i noticed it was JB welded before from what i could tell. what do you all suggest I do? I am getting a small oil leak from where the jb welded piece is at and it is not sealing the way it should... think i should jb weld it or try to have a shop hit it up with a tig welder? please help

I would tig weld it.

This is yet another example of a good reason not to buy a bike with road rash. There can always be some hidden surprises.

A tig weld will permanently repair it and you shouldnt have to worry about it again.

Yeah that sux. You really have to do some homework to find someone who is good at welding aluminum. If you lived in the dallas area I could point you in the right direction.

Look for a place that sells trailers (motorcyle / snowmobile, etc...) 9 times out of 10 they have the capability to weld aluminum trailers ( like those they sell) or can point you in the right direction of who can in the area...

try to find a place that repairs tractor trailer fuel tanks, they can weld aluminum extremely well, or somewhere that repairs tractor trailers(aluminum flatbeds) they tig weld the aluminum decks back together all the time and the side rails on....I would think out of most shops around you they would probably have the best knowledge and experience for tig welding aluminum
