bike sputtering til 4 or 5 grand???
i had an empty tank mon morning and filled up as usual...bike started sputtering and exhaust(jardine) started sounding like an atv exhaust, pretty ****ty. so i was told it could be a bad tank of gas so i dropped the tank, put a new tank and fuel injector cleaner in and the problems still there. i was a mech today and they said it sounds like its only runnin on 2 or 3 cylinders and to replace the plugs. new plugs came out to $70+. i dont have much money and dont wanna spend it on something thats not gonna fix the bike. has anyone had this problem or something similar? what was wrong? whatd you do to fix it? bike only has 6k miles on it.
thanks

Did you run completely out of gas while the bike was running?
If you did it can fowl any one of the plugs. Bad gas can fowl the plugs as well. Even though the plugs are 70$, it never hurts to change them went it is running like crap.
It maybe sputtering until 4 or 5k because of a fowled plug, when you get up into the higher rpms the engine can compensate for the lack of spark in one of the cylinders. Check all of your plug wires to see if they are tight and go for the plugs.
Think about it this way if it is 70$ it is the cheapest way out of it.

two of the plugs were fouled...so i replaced the plugs and the bike started up just fine, got down the street with regular take offs and better acceleration. then on the way back up the street it started sputtering again. took the plugs out and the two that were fouled before smelled of gas and had what the mechanic told me was gas. what could the problem be thats foulin the plugs??? injectors???

Sounds to me like it could be ignition timing cause if the gas comes on time but the spark doesn't then you end up with wet plugs. And not far off will be the gas again then Fouled plug(s). So your injectors may be just fine. Im not sure on how to go about advancing or retarding the ignition timming. Bad tank of gas could cause some sputtering but to keep fouling plugs even after changing out the gas leads me to a different conclusion. Sounds like it could be some "greenbacks" to solve this problem. Good Luck!

LMAO SPOONER!! But did you foul plugs because of the fuel pressure regulator or were you having other troubles as well. Just wondering. Not laughing at the money thing though. Just laughing at how you wrote your post (hopping you ment it to be comical).

yea it was supposed to be comical...the spark plugs were fouled cause of the bad fuel pressure regualtor im sure...well i got a guy on the inside and im gettin the regulator for anywhere from 20-40% off so thats cool. wish me luck installin it!!!
