So anyone else going to try this? I took my friends bike out with the 954 motor into his 929 and it felt great with the retune!

I'm definitely interested in trying this, I have found a motor locally and I definitely have the skillset to make it happen, but before I purchase the engine I want to confirm that I can do this with only the 929 electronics. the firing order is the same and everything? I have read that the 954 injectors have a different harness plug, but that is irrelevant if you reuse the 929 throttle bodies. i would assume that if you use the 929 electronics then the relocation of the bank angle sensor is irrelevant because your not using the 954 harness. any help is definitely appreciated, i am new to bikes but have tons of experience modifying fuel injected honda cars and think that most of my skills will cross over. thanks in advance...

Oh, I have full intentions of getting a full dyno tune so please don't flame me about the tune being wrong.

sup jeff im geting ready to do the same! you should use the 954 ecu along with the harness . you need to use the 954 swing arm too then it will be a direct bolt in . you want to use the 29 throttle bodys with the 54 engine?

Only for ease of swap and lack of funds. I know theoretically its gonna hurt the 954's overall performance but will still be an improvement over the 929. With a true Dyno tune itll only be be missing the throttle body size and the atomization improvement in the newer style injectors.

Your money would be better spent on adding the 954 throttle bodies and ecu to your 929 motor. Changing the motor will have little affect if any on the dyno if you keep your 929 throttle bodies and ecu. Even doing a complete swap of motor, tb's and ecu is not worth the money.

In my case, it will make a huge difference. Im replacing a blown engine. Lol im not doing it for performance im doing it because I have to. I think im going to go ahead and get the electronics too just to be safe.

its a easy swap if you have what you need. if your going to use the stock 929 tank you need to use the 929 air box because the 54 air box is shaped different. if you use the 929 ITBs on a 954 motor then you will need to retune the bike other wise it will most likely blow up. so to do the swap you need cluster, ecu, full harness. and you will have no problems.

Thanks for the replies guys. The 54 engine I lined up was no good so I'm just gonna hunt down a 929.
