No, they are not the same. If you try to use a 96-97 (MAS) loom with 93-94 (MW0) gauges, you won't be able to hook up the speedometer or the turn signal indicators. MW0 gauges use a cable from a hub at the front wheel to measure velocity, whereas '95 (MAE) and up use a speed sensor from the drive sprocket via the loom to the gauges.
If you already have the MW0 motor and gauges, your number of headaches would be less if you get the corresponding loom (wire harness). But you would also be somewhat forced to choose the MW0 upper cowl and fairing stay bracket (which holds the gauges and cowl). The cowl and bracket are specific to model years as well: 93-94, 95-97, 98-99. So mixing and matching will not work right out of the box.[&o]
But that's okay. Good on ya for buildin' her up!
