What's a good motor oil - Synthetic
I've been using Lucas 20w 50 synthetic motor oil for straight 3 oil change now. I heard Lucas is for Harleys but should also be good for Hondas too I guess? What's a good oil out there for good price. I'm on a very tight budget lately..any suggestion is appreciated..tks in advance.
Huge debate here!!!... I have a 99 bored 1mm & stroked 1mm w/head work & cams... I run only dino oil... 20000 miles no problems... Dont believe the hype in synthetics.. Mainly their cost...as well as most synthetics in U.S. Have a high dino base which makes them not so synthetic!!!!!
Well my $0.02...
Darton Sleeves:

Specifically advise DO NOT use synthetic oil in the first 5,000 miles of operation of a sleeved block because the sleeves and rings will not wear in quick enough and thus burn oil for longer than necessary. They contribute this to the low friction qualities of synthetic oil. They this suggest SWITCH TO to synthetic oil after 5,000 miles.
So, based on their advice (and the advice of other engine builders who have worked on $100K motors), I'm willing believe that synthetics are worth the extra cost.
Now, with that said my Tahoe gets regular oil from QuickLube because it just costs too much (all things involved) to deal with synthetic in my daily driver. But in any performance oriented vehicle, I use synthetic.
I have always used Mobil 1. The guy that installed my Darton Sleeves in my LS1 likes Pennzoil's synthetic. I'm impressed by what I have seen from the royal purple stuff, though I have never personally used it. You can do some searching on the net as there are countless oil reviews that give loads of data. Ultimately use what you like best.
