Wayyyyyy high Tach Reading
Hi all,
New to the CBR900 world, but not new to bikes. Been riding/wrenching for 20-odd years.
I've a '97 900RR with a crazy tach. It reads 7,000 - 8,000 RPM HIGHER than it actually should when the bike is first warming up - reading rock-steady (no flutter), but wayyyyyy high none the less. Tach settles to normal once the bike is good and warmed up however.
For example, when cruising at 100 kph (60 mph) in top gear, the tach indicates the engine is screaming along at 12, 500 rpm instead of the 4,500 rpm it shows once the bike has warmed up for ten minutes or so.
Any thoughts??

In my case the needle will start to free flow occasionally when i'm riding hard, apart from that its ok. Guess the 97's are prone to this defect..
In your case I don't think the problem got any relate with the engine is warmed up or not. Its probably due to accelaration. I had opened up my speedo and tacho to check but everything looks fine. Sorry couldn't help you.
BTW my speedo has this problem of the needle making a round and stay on the other side of the meter whenever I turn off the ignition. It will come back to its original position when I turn on again..... oh yes the backlight of the meter will always blow up too.
I give up... [&:]
