If you want a higher top speed than the R1:

1: Trade 900RR in on new Hayabusa

2.

3. Profit

You're not gonna beat R1's without some major, expensive upgrades to your bike. You're giving up a 100 cc's and over 100 pounds heavier. Sorry bro its not happening without some serious cash put into your bike.

GODDAMN IT!! I just had a nice thing typed out and IE kicks back an error.

A full exhaust, jetted properly, -1/+2 520 and lose any weight on it you can. They weigh about the same now...mine tipped the scales at 445 full of fluids. If YOU are overweight at all, go on a diet a little. 20lbs will make a HUGE difference on a bike.

In the end...it will cost you the price of a new bike to make yours that fast and in the end you will have a 99 900RR. A fast one, but one none the less. Head work, big bore kit, cams, large carbs........all of which will turn reliability and streetability towards the crapper.

They have an honest 30+hp on you......that is a lot of power to make up and can't be done with bolt-ons. If you're lucky you may bolt on up to 120ish at the tire. They had better be pretty poor running R1's to be under 150hp at the tire.

I would face the music and either bite the bullet for a different bike or live with it.
This is all assuming you are an equal rider......if you're not, improve your skills and hit the track.......that will level the playing field.

your only cheap option is a turbo kit. Thats about 3K and good luck finding one. If you do though your looking at a minumum 200HP. Wouldnt recomend that though, bragging rights aren't worth dying for. Just hone your skills as finely as you can and enjoy what you got.

wellI thank you guys for the info especially knowing the fact that it would cost me a new bike to get mine up to par so i guess i'll just have to deal with it but i do want to get a full system and losing a few pounds wouldn't hurt i appreciate it fellas.

Ihave a 97 900rr and i just completed phase one of my mods which was, head porting and polishing and newcams degreed. I savedsome money by doing the work myself,I decked the head .01 of and inch, andthe dyno resultswhere when stock114hp, now 137hp at the rear wheel. My cost for Phase one was approximately $1000.00 dollars in parts.
Phase two willinclude, 945 pistons ($745.00) cylinder bore and keihins 41mmflatsides carbs($1245.00) and possibly crankwork ($300-$500). So far the work has been worth the money. I completed all theconsmetic work(chrome wheels, exhaust, custom seats etc.)and I'm very happywith that, so it doesn't make since to get into debtor spend$11,000-$13,000 ona new bike, and then turn around and spend $3-4 more thousand for appearance and preformance. So I preferto getthe bestthat I can from whatI have, because the truth is,there will always be something fasterthan yours, so do you try to keep up ormake the best ofwhat you have and which is the least expensive? For me $5000 is a lot less than $15,000.

Just remember, no matter what bike someone has, there is always someone faster.
