Default tail swap??

Does anyone know if I can put a newer style tail on my 97 900rr? I am having trouble finding an under tail that is to my liking. I would rather just swap with a 98 or newer. I would really like to use a 929 or 954 tail. please help! I'm still looking any any help would be greatly appreciated.

anything can be done. it really depends on your fabrication abilities. i put a 600rr tail on a 97 600 f2. twistedcbr on this site has pics. i believe you could put a 929 or a 954 on a 900rr subframe. the problem lies in which seat you could use. you wouldn't want gaps in the setup. really the only way to find out is to either buy the newer tail and hope you can make it work or go to a salvage yard with your tail off the bike and ask ( nicely ) if you could find something to fit wit minimal fitting. my cousin has an r1 tail on his gixxer. jope this was useful

The whole process involves relocation of mount holes and seat bracket from a 98-99 If you try putting it on, you'll find that the srew holes don't match up. There's a;so a big gap in the rear seat without the proper year seat bracket. I read it posted on another CBR900 site. From what I read, I think it's easier doing a rear subframe swap. It requires cutting shorter the upper mount tubes, taking the inside screw mounts and matching it up to the placement of the 93-97 subframe and closing off the end where you shortened. Then the tail mounts up. If you try mounting the subframe as it is, the rear sags because the top mounting tubes are longer on the 98-99. Plus you have your original subframe to measure and take off what you need. Overall, it didn't seem as complicated as using the original 97 subframe. I don't want to post other sites so if you'd like, PM me and I can send you the site with the info. Got to give respect to the guys of CBRFORUM.com
