Sombody PLease. Help with my Clutch???
My Clutch is out...I'm not sure what to replace???
I was an hour away from home when it went out, started slipping. Stopped at a Local M.C, shop. After test driving it, the Mechanic said, let cool down, and cruise back home. He instructed, how to drive to keep the clutch from slipping and getting hot.
So, what do I need to replace??? Friction plates only? Friction plates and Springs? Entire cluth set, including Metal plates???
I found a really descent cluth kit made by, EBC.

If it's just slipping out on highway, your fibers are gone. If it still launches smooth, the steels are probably okay. When you get clutch out, lay steels on glass tabletop and check for warpage with feeler gauge. Check manual for service limit, I don't have one in front of me at the moment. I'd install Barnett springs whether yours are shot or not. They will help your next clutch last longer. The clutch pull is a little stiffer but isn't that noticeable to me. I always recommend OEM fibers and steels. I've tried Barnett and EBC kits in the past and have run into clutchpack height problems. After removing them and mic'ing them, the thickness varies compared to OEM. I don't think their manufacturing tolerances are as strict as OEM. On the other hand, I've known people to use them and not have any trouble. I'd rather be safe than sorry, though.
If it were mine, I'd replace both steels and fibers with OEM. It's a lil more expensive, but in my opinion they work better when everything is replaced at same time.
