rims on a 98 900rr
hello i am getting ready to do some mods to my 98 900rr and one of the mods are the 954 trips and 1000rr forks along with the rc51 rim and 1000rr calipers. due to two reasons 1) rc51 sp1 front rims are not avail now and for 2) i like the 5 spoke rims rather than the 6 just as well. i am curious how hard the 5 spoke rims are to mount onto the 98 rr and also if i was to get these (because i love them) 00 01 Honda RC51 Front Rear Wheel Rim Set 02 03 04 05 06 Pair not Chrome | eBay how hard they would be to mount mainly the rear rim is in question because i know that the front is doable, i have read on here somewhere that (i think) all you need is 2 spacers to mount the sp2 rims to the 1000rr forks? any input would be GREATLY appreciated.

well ok i have talked to the guy who is making my extended swingarm and if i have him use the 900 front half to mount to the bike and the rc51 back half of the arm there will be no issues just use the rc51 brake calipers and rear wheel. Would the chain line up at this point or would i have to mess with the spacing? does anyone know? Please any help i would appreciate....

unfortunately i dont have an solid answer for you, but i figured i would tell you what i think..
your right! i have seen those rims and rim size being used on the older blades, i just dont know what exact modifications had to be done!!
but im positive and know for sure its been done!!!
heres a guy on a different site who went through it. 900RR vs SP1 rims - Honda Motorcycles - FireBlades.org
and this one
sp1 rear wheel to fireblade sc33 - Honda Motorcycles - FireBlades.org
even though these guys are bitching each other out, theres alot of good info here..
Rc51 sp1 6-spoke gp style front wheel nib [Archive] - Honda RC51 Forum : RC51 Motorcycle Forums
if i get a chance later today to find the how to: i read some time back, ill post it for you..
bottom line is just about anyything can be done, its what your willing to do to get there..

yes i have seen that post and read it many times and he used a full cbr swingarm. In the post that he wrote up it says it bolted right up but in this post Front forks swap he said he used a 1/8 spacer behind the gear to bring it out for alignment so im a little confused on what REALLY needs done. like i had stated he is gonna fab my extended swingarm with the cbr front frame mount and cut it basically in half and use the rc51 back half of it including brake mounts and alignment ends so i wont have to get machining done.

it probably wouldnt hurt to shoot that guy an email..
of course give him props for pulling it off and then ask for any extra pictures he might have of the work being done and or ask exactly how much fabricating went into it, including spacers and grinding if any!!
and if theres anything im sure of about the guys over at that site, they dont mind sharing info they came accross the hard way..
