Restoring low mileage 1993 Fireblade - 1996 Fender?
Hello everyone. I hope you are all well - over in England we have recently experienced the fabled 'Indian Summer' and had unseasonably good riding weather as a bit of a treat before we are plunged into winter.
A few weeks ago I bought an original 1993 Fireblade (CBR900RR) with 15,000 miles on the clock for £2k. It has had typical 'improvement' works done to it in that the rear fender has been chopped, the indicators replaced for some flea sized things, and had an enormous exhaust slipped on the back. I love this bike and want to restore it to its former glory with the application of elbow grease and thrifty part sourcing. The first problem I have encountered is that Honda have discontinued most of the spare parts.
Does anyone know whether the rear Fender from a 1996 bike can be made to fit a 1993 bike? They have different part numbers but look very similar. I have an offer of one from a breakers yard but not sure whether to go for it or not.
Here are some pictures of the bike en route to its new home via the Derbyshire Dales:

I'm sure you know this, but there are three families of MAJOR changes in these bikes- 93-95, 96-97, and 98-99. mostly all of the 93-95 will interchange amongst eachother, but not to the later years. (it will, but will not work "all the way" ie. with other parts that mesh with the existing ones) tank is different, fairing stays are different, bodywork is slightly different, engine is completely different… Now, some of the 96-97 will work with the 98-99, and some will not- engine is 90% compatible, suspension for the most part is too, except for brakes on the front- and fork spacing, but you can change the whole assy out and have it work old with new…
Experimentation IS the key!!!! The rear inner fender and bits hanging off the **** should work though-

I went the opposite way, put a '93-'95 fender on my '97. I never liked the half circle look of the '96-'97 fender...
