Default Removing stem nut..need help

'99 900R
I'm replacing handle bars (OEM) this weekend. I need to remove the top bridge. To do that, I need to take off the stem nut. Anybody know what size socket I need to take it off? I have the service maunal, and it just says to remove the nut. No other info other than ft. lb. torque specs.
Will a socket fit that, or will that need a special tool? Also, anyone with previous bar removal experience, comments and suggestion welcome.
