Why do you need to remove the front calipers to take off the front tire? Also the manual says once the calipers have been removed you need to replace the caliper mounting bolts?



You can't just slide the tire out with the calipers still bolted on?

This in on a 94 900rr.

 

I think I slid mine out without removing the calipers, but it's been a little bit since then. Give it a try. If it works, do it. If you have to remove them, then oh well.

I never replaced any bolts.

 

I can't see why you couldn't just slide it out. We'll find out shortly.

Might want to use a screwdriver to wedge between the rotors and the pads so that you can back the pads off and gain some more clearance.

 

Ahh, I see why. A large part of the caliper houseing sits inside the rim. The rotors leaving the calipers isn't the problem. The tire and rim just wont fit in between the inner caliper surfaces.

When fitting my front tie-down strap (to tuck the front down for drag strip duty) I had to play around with the caliper bolts since that's where you mount the strap, uh, mounts. I just unbolted them and let them dangle for a bit. No harm. And still no problems even with the added stress of the strap when I pull the headlight down to the fender.
