Exclamation problems shifting---different

Hello everyone! I'm a new member...but here's my problem.

I have a 98 900rr with about 25,000 miles. I have had this bike for about a yearand lately it has been hard for me to get the bike into 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear. Most of the posts I have seen here describe slipping out of gear but mine won't go in. If I let off the gas and slow down a little, after a few seconds it eventually goes in gear and I am fine. It feels like the shift lever kinda drops down a little when it eventually is able to shift, but I only notice it sometimes with my foot.

When this problem occurs, when I lift the lever to shift nothing happens. No clicks, nothing. Now that I think about it I don't know if the lever even moves up until it is able to actually go in gear.

Any suggestions? problems? Cost?
I wont be doing the work myself, but I have a friend that knows alot about bikes and gives me a deal on labor.

Thank you all in advance, I know at least one of you have encountered this before

Thumbs up

I'll bet your ratcheting claw is bent. It's part of the shift shaft assembly. You need to pull the clutch to replace it. The part is under $100.

Not a big deal. If that is what is wrong.
