Powder coating has worked out well for me on my red 08 CBR1K. All the silver parts (pegs and brackets, levers and the muffler heat sheild were powdered in satin black to match the frame and swingarm. Made the bike look tough. Forgot to do the triple tree. Now that I see it done, I'm definitely doing it. The red nut is a really cool touch that i think i will copy. Thanks for the idea!!!!!!! Sorry I have no picks. I am almost computer stupid. One of my friends will have to show me how to post pics. then you can see the change it made for the looks.

when I do the set in black I'm putting those back on my bike and getting rid of the ebay special's I got on there. The red ones I was playing with.

 

So I decided to start on my rim project. Took off my parts bike front rim and removed the tire at work. I started to sand blast and decided to try airplane stripper afterwards...Stripper worked pretty good, but will be sandblasted more. After its clean it will be sent off to get straightened. Just a tad bent and enough to annoy me. Going to powered it neon yellow. My rims on bike now are fading a little on lips. and a nice brake fluid stain on rear rim.

 

Remember to remove the bearings and cover the hub so no paint powder will get there. Didn't see has it been covered in this topic with a quick onceover but the powdercoat will be baked on and the bearing seals will melt in the oven and the grease will boil. I've seen it happen a couple of times, seen equally many ruined paint jobs too if you catch my drift... black smoke trace upwards and melted plastic running down the hub... even seen one catch fire once when the oven was opened. The customer covered the hubs with threaded bar and big washers but the genious left the bearings in behind the washers.

3-4 hrs of prep work to get it where its ready to powder. Its been raining today so I might not attempt it today.

So I figured out I Cannot do motorcycle rims yet. I need a bigger oven and better gun to do it. Car rims I can do. I have done 2 sets so far.
Problem with motorcycle rims is they need to be sprayed vertical not horizontal. Powder doesn't like to be sprayed upside down. and very hard to get in cracks. The only way it would fit into oven is horizontal. Well crap from oven droped onto rim and its full of black sports, plus the shine isn't good because I had to flip rim over and do the other side to get it all covered. Too many bakes in the oven I guess.
Time to strip it all down and let a professional do it for me.. Small stuff is easy.
Triple tree and mirror stay drying as I speak..Pics up soon.
Now I could do motorcycle rims in a solid color just not a neon color. Black would have came out good I bet.
