For most everyday basic stuff I use Duponts shopline brand. Its relatively inexpensive but there are tons of color and finish options from single stage to pearls and metals and even the clear puts down a very nice and very hard finish. This amount of solids and hardness of finish just can't be replicated in a aerosol can.

For bike size stuff, couple horse 3-5 gal is plenty with a good filter/water seperator inline.

They are a good bang for the buck but definately lower to middle range. If I were going to buy a lifetime rig for heavy regular use I'd buy a "brand" name. Something with good warranty and local availibilty of parts.

For farting around the house, like in my home shop, I actually have two air comps. A little 1.5HP unit (piston, not diaphram) for everyday stuff that I think I paid $119 for about 5 years ago and its doesnt owe me a dime. Harbor freight and its portable. I even spray off of it for small detail stuff or single parts and panels with a detail gun. And then I have a larger unit (25gal) mounted outside for anything requiring large volumes. Its a sears model I've had for maybe 10 years now.

What steps did you take to paint?

Yeah I thinks it actually a craftsman. One of the black commercial ones? They had one of those credit card deals at the time that saved a bunch of money so I bought that and paid it off next month.

If you build up enough product, you can sand anything smooth.

I promise, you can mark that finish with as little as a fingernail.

In 6 or so months it will get hard enough to hold a relatively high gloss after you buff it out (for the n teenth time) at the end of those 6 months but it still wont be as hard as 'auto' paint is in 24 hours.

The prep and finish work, which is the bulk of that video and is so substantial do to the product being used, is really a topic outside of the material being sprayed.

But elbow grease is free.... to some. Personally my free time is a bit more valuable to me.
