The bike can handle 300 lbs, but the suspension will need to be adjusted. Your probably going to need to reset the ride height, specifically the preload on the rear shock so the bike doesn't sag in the back. More anti-dive in the front, and probably a little extra rebound damping on both thr front and rear suspension.
If this is really your 'first' bike, your going to have your hands full. I would not classify this as a beginner bike! Be careful!!

Being 300 lbs and 6-1, you want to stiffen the suspension and increase bothe the front and rear preload to prevent bottoming out. Front preload can be adjusted by turning the top 14mm "bolt" on the fork caps(clockwise to increase). Also stiffen the front compression(how fast the forks compress) by turning the BOTTOM adjustment screws near the axle(S=soft H=hard). Make sure they're adjusted equally. For now I wouldn't mess with the rebound. The rear preload can be adjusted by turning the "spanner" ring located on the topside of your shock spring. Your factory tool kit will have the appropriate spanner wrench, or you can buy it at any bike shop. The rear compression adjuster can be found on the nitrogen reservoir with the same screw type as the front. Make small adjustments and figure out what feels best for you.
