Default need some opnions

long story short, we picked up a 98 900rr that was wrecked. has 39,000 on it.
Upper faring was gone, rear farings destroyed, rear frame slightly bent. gas tank trashed, mirrors gone, upper stay broken, windshield mia, Side farings actually in good condition. bike was layed down in grass at what speed I don't know. Picked up bike for 800. put 1200 in it and it looks great, runs great. No smoke no nothing out tail pipe. I was able to get bike back together. new tank, ebay plastics, bunch of used parts and a bunch of new parts.

There was oil all down engine coming out of carb #1. We cleaned it off, bike smoked for 5 mins when we first fired it up when we went to buy it. I thought it was oil from being layed down. which it was. after 5 min of running no more smoke, motor runs awesome. shifts good also.

Well 400 miles later the oil is back. See pic. Coming out carb 1 and down block. This bike doesn't smoke at all.. Runs great.

What do you guys think might be the issue here? I was thinking valve stem seal. Any ideas? How long to you think the motor might last?

Thanks Vinman

Is there oil inside the carb?
Maybe its leaking from the valve cover or a damaged head.

I dont know if oil is in carb. I won't be able to get to them till next weekend. I'm going to pull them off and check the boots to see if thier dry rotted. JC had a good point and said start there. I will check the V/C and see. Thanks.
I'm way to new to these 900's. More of a BMW (car) tech, but hope to learn about these carbed bad boys as much as I can. Already sync carbs, and have done fork seals. I can rebuild car motors. I hope to buy a 900 motor and tear it down.

you know vin if its not the boot then its the washer at that vaccum hookup spot..

looks like the boot..

oh and i almost forgot the guy was going over a hundred and forty while out on this run, going that fast the motoir was really moving and the pressure was high, ill put money its on the boot.. i'd even maybe try to re tighten it down and see what it looks like by the end of a couple runs ..
