Default Need a heads up on a 93 CBR 900RR

Goin to look at one on the weekend & am curious if there are any obvious quirks with the RR that i should be looking for??? Timing chain,tensioner, clutch rattle..etc,etc??? Its a 93 with 23,000kms..all original as far as i know.

Not really. There's only a couple of deadly quirks which happen largely to mistreated bikes.

For example, the regulator/rectifier might fizzle out, sometimes with actual smoke (a common Honda problem, not just the 900RR); abused 900RR engines (particularly the 893cc, '93-'95) are somewhat prone to losing connecting rod bearings; and abused transmissions can spell the end of second gear and/or the clutch plates.

Don't be nervous though, the 900RR is still a relatively bulletproof, reliable Honda. I bought my '93 new ... rode it for two years ... parked it for 11 years after an accident ... then in 2007 the motor fired right up like nothing happened. Since then it's been great ... in April I rode across the desert for 700 miles without incident.

You should take pictures and post them up for us. Kilometers? What country are you in ...

Let's see, things to look for....

It will still hold it's own with most new bikes;

It looks better than the majority of new bikes;

It must be one of the most reliable bikes ever made;

(My personal fave) It will hold 2 Foster's oil cans in the rear trunk.

Come on guy's, I'm sure you can come up with some more!

All jokes aside, I had a 929RR and I like my 900 so much more. I will always have a 900RR in my garage. It has soul. Enjoy your bike and let's see some pics.

The motor on my '93 is amazing.

I would never know it was nearly 17 years old-- it hauls like a freight train and sounds amazing.

Ride after ride, it does the job and does it well.

Handling....acceleration....the only weak link for me are the brakes.

They could be a bit stronger.

Hey MT, get a Galfer front brake kit on Ebay. It runs $100+ and includes stainless brakes lines and pads. It took me about and hour to install and now I have one finger brakes that are amazing.

Hey Guys: thanks for the respones!!! Much appreciated!!!!

I'm gonna have a look at the bike tomorrow morning. He sent me some pics & it looks a lil rough around the edges...mostly blinkers, tail, exhaust...no biggie. As long as the motor sounds tight then i'll be bringing it home 4 sure!!! I should have some pics before the weekend is out.

One other Honda quirk is the cam chain tensioner. If the top end clicks like crazy, it could be a worn-out CCT. New replacements are available pretty easily. You might also hear clicky valves ...

Hey guys: sorry for the delay in the reply dept, but i've been riding the hell out of my new to me 93 900RR!!! I put over 350kms the first two days i had it & i'm creeping up on 700k as we speak.
Thanks for all the heads up about my first question...biggest issue for me is if the motor sounded tight, the bike was coming with me...& it did. Original owner since 1995 with 23,000kms or so it says...this thing pulls hard right through the rev range...jetting is spot on!!! Has a full Yosh system that was put on back in the day & is getting kind a ratty, but i contacted Hindle Canada & they still have a few Full systems in stock for the older 900RR if anyone is interested i could send you the link.....i have one coming as we speak....stainless headers & mid pipe with a 18" oval aluminum can...should sound sweet!!!

I'll get some pics up soon....

Wow I didn't know they even sold those for our bikes!

Thanks rd400racer I appreciate the info.

I'll do a google search now....though I'll likely put them on when the stock ones are no good anymore.

Don't have much in the money dept right now.
