Ya, the brackets took a beating. I bent them far enough to fit on mirrors, and I'll finish the rest of the bending when the windshield comes in (and shows me where the plastics need to sit). I have a huge table and vice I've been using to bend things I need to.

The issue is keeping the bracket put. The bracket is completely loose when the 2 bolts that hold it down are completely tightened in. Is the tank supposed to be over or under the metal bracket portion? Am i possibly missing bushing underneath the tank mounts?

I cant compare mine to yours asmy 1993 CBR900RR is quite different. My bracket is mounted directly to the side of the frame (picture).

But logically it would make sense for the tank bracket to be on top of the mirror bracket. The added weight would hold it a little more securely and plus everytime you want to take the tank off, to do a service or something, you wouldnt need to take the whole bracket off to get the tank off, you can just loosen the bolts. But be sure to put some rubber washers between the tank and the mirror bracket, dont wanna scratch it to smitherines now.

The bracket shouldn't get TIGHT......it should flex and move around where it mounts although it should not be finger loose either. The rubber is there to allow it to move around and dampen vibration.

Thats right yeah. Its to help with the shock absorbtion of the road to the mirror, along with the wheel shocks. I think thats why they changed the bracket on the later models as I get a jumpy picture in my mirrors over a bumpy road. The rubber washers/grommits are there to act as small shocks on the frame to bracket. I still support my previous post about mounting the bracket under the tank. That will mean that the tanks weight can help it from rattling like a rattle snake on a bumpy road, but do not over tighten it.

Order of mount from frame to bolt: frame / rubber washer / bracket / rubber washer / tank hook / rubber washer / metal washer / bolt

when you have bent it straight the bolt section should be flush when you lay it on the washers. If you can, hand tighten it as far as you can, then when the bolt meets the metal washer, give it about 1 to 1.5 turns with the socket. That should keep it in place to not make it come loose on its own on the road, and it wont be tight enough to squash all of the rubber thus removing any shock absorbtion ability it might have.

The tank and mirror bar are definitely too loose, but I also have the rubber washers mounted in the wrong order. The washers are also spongy and cracked, so I guess I need a new set as well.

I might be able to get this bike all together tomorrow night except for the windshield which will be coming in sometime soon. Once It is together, I go for a ride, and if the forks are tweaked, I'll adjust those, then I'll be set to ride!

ya i am getting a new front tire on mine since i skid all the way to flat rubber and no tread. and while its there i am having them straighten the front. better safe than sorry. they have like a holder and something to do it better at the big dealership near my house. would rather have it done than have a wabble at 80 or 100 or even 120. those wobbles suck ***. the first guy told me like a 10 minute job and while i was up there today the new guy told me like 80 or like an hours worth of work. bullcrap whatever. have a safe and fun ride

From what I see, all it is (fixing the tweak) is loosening 4 - 8 bolts, and just aligning it, then a re-tighten. A 2 person job if your doing it in your garage, one to sit on the bike and steer, one to move the forks to the straight position and tighten.

Well, rode it yesterday for 150 miles! This bike has *****....BIG *****! Crazy fast isn't an accurate way to describe it, disgustingly fast is. The Corbin seat is fantastic, my butt was fine til about mile 140, and that's good for a first long ride of the season.

The forks are indeed tweaked, but not enough to really notice unless you are looking. It didn't affect my riding whatsoever yesterday, and aside of being uncomfortable of going 100 + MPH to keep up with the front guy, I was doing ok. This riding position, and thus turning, are completely different from the straight bars I'm used to on enduros. Leaning is much different, but the brakes on this bike are phenomenal, I'm sure it helps the bike has full braided lines too.

Bike worked great, but the thermostat is broken. Average riding temperature was about 127 degrees, and it would warm up to 150-160 when stopped at a light, so it is stuck open. I think I may leave it liek that until it gets cooler after summer. Free-er flowing coolant during hot summer rides...stuck in traffic... would put my mind at ease.

Overall the bike is awesome. Needs a left clip-on since the current one is bet a little. Needs a few more bolts, and new signals, and of course that little problem of not having insurance on it or registration yet (took the plate off of my XT550and put it on mine haha). All in good time though.

Is it normal for the CBR900 to run at such a low tmeperature? I was averaging 127 on that ride, and today at speed it was 147 degrees. What are the 900's supposed to run at? Is it possible or common for the sensor to be bad? Thermostat?
