my cooling fan for my engine isnt working some help!!
Ok, so my engine like passes the middle bar when im idling at slow speeds. i can feel the heat comign from my gas tank area suggesting it could be coming from the engine. My fan doesn't seem to be even kicking in at all. The only way the engine gauge starts to drop is when I'm constantly moving at 35 mpd or more. I check the fuse chip and it looks clean. My coolant seems to have a decent ammount. Anyone have an idea what could be going on with my fan? I have a 1995 cbr 900rr of course.
do you have electrical testing tools? If not then you might just want to hand it over to a pro. If you do then first power the fan up manually, if that is good then you know its wiring or the temp gauge located on the bottom left of the radiator. The fan comes on at about 3/4 sweep of the temp gauge, so you know. If you have no experience in electrical testing and the rest then this is not going to be an easy fix. Its could be any number of things so you need to run down the list and that will get you the answer.
what does your gauge read (where abouts is the needle) when you think the fan should be going on? you can always let it idle until the gauge reads half or just past half to see if your fan will go on. when i ride mine i can feel the heat comming form under the tank but the fan will kick on at a certain temp.[8D]
You can't conclude your fan is not working with the heat you feel that coming from under the tank. Thats pretty normal. To be really sure your fan is not working, I suggest you let your engine idle. If your fan is not really kicking, the gauge should read way more than half.
Just replace the fuse to be really sure its in good condition. Check out the fuse contact too. Try to get a direct power supply for the fan motor to check its really working. The other common culprit for this case will be the thermostat. Oh yes, check out the fan connector too; sometimes it can be loose too.
