So I just bought a 96 CBR900 and it needs a good bit of work. I figure while I have the plastics off getting repaired and or replaced I would work on the engine. All I'm looking for is the basics carb kit, airfilter it already has a Vance & Hines 552 bolt on exhaust. What do you recommend. Also would you change the sprockets?

If your wondering why, my last bike was a CBR1100XX I know I won't get that kind of power, I just won't alittle more than stock.

 

Hey bro, i looked it up for ya... the HONDA gasket set you will need is 16010-mz2-e00 and the cost is $21.69, note that that is for one carb, you will need 4 of these at a cost of $86.76 plus tax and shipping. I looked this up at Beaverdam Honda Kawasaki. I buy there cause they are fair priced and ship pretty quick. Also note that is just the gaskets for the carbs , no float, no needles or jets , just the rubber gaskets and a little metal washer for your air/fuel adjustment screw. My 93 900RR is super fast with stock sprocks, as for your blackbird, i think with a good tune, your RR will be faster(below 130mph). at your request ill throw in some pics of my last carb overhaul, i dont think they'll let bambam be a mod tho, Good luck and peace

here are some pics, i try and keep all parts for one carb to be labeled for that carb, #1,#2 ect. keep in mind there are a few little tricks to making it succesful. make sure that all idle jets are clear , there is a very small port in them. also upon dissasemble, count how many turns the air/fuel screw is set at, usually its about 2 full turns, this will give you an initial setting for strt up, then you will need to syync the carbs, motion pro sells some things that will aid in this...a remote fuel tank(very helpful in the initial fire up and sync) and a flow meter will help sync. the sync is very important for idle, throttle responce, and overall performance. dont hesitate to ask questions as there is to much proceedure to type in.

 

What carb kit do you recommend. I thought I read that there are different stage kits. And if I didn't say it yet, thank you for all your help.

 

A CARB rebuild kit is different than a JET kit. if you want a jet kit stay with a reputable brand like DYNO. i would go with a stage one jet kit , but olny if you have a aftermarket pipe and a k+n air filter. all of the other stages require much modification. if your lookin to tune up bike - just rebuild the carbs with stated kit. if your lookin to soop it up then see what parts you can find. but olny re-jet if you have the parts i stated above.

 

chances are if your bike had a after market pipe, ill bet lunch that it has already been re-jetted. youll be able to tell when you teardown carbs if the plastic needle slide has a hole drilled in , as this is a step taken during re-jetting process.
