It's possible for the clutch system to last the life of the bike, but if you feel it slipping at only 17k miles, someone may have had their way with it. Try changing your oil to the right level and viscosity first, it has a noticeable effect on the wear and operation of the clutch system. Otherwise, worn clutch discs and weak springs cause it to slip; your best bet if you feel comfortable with wrenches is to find a quality set of used or new clutch plates, discs, and springs on ebay.

yep first thing i thougth of was the oil so i changed it.. nothin. and since i got a new exhaust it has made it worse. and i have not been friendly to my clutch because i run it up pretty good but no stunting. i ordered a new performance barret clutch kit for only 110 so i will redo the clutch next thurs.
thanks spirit yet again

I bought a similar barnett clutch Jon and I love it. It comes with heavy duty springs and loves to bite. I thought my clutch was slipping and replaced a perfectly good clutch after i miced (sp? measured with a micrometer) the fibers and they were still fine. Spirit nailed it, get the oil right then start adjusting it. Coarse tuning on the clutch cover and fine tuning on the handle. The only thing negative I have to say about the barnett is my track days make my forearms look like popeye! Notice in my pics I've got 3 fingers on the clutch cuz i can't do it with 2! haha

ya, the springs are quite stiff but I'd rather have it that way. It bites fantastic, and unforunately no gasket doh! thats another 12 bucks....
And the bike hasn't moved , waiting to find this girl.... things are looking good. Not gonna ride it for insurance claim purposes. Once it gets settled I'll start a post about it lol
