i didnt want to ask but its a problem
so on monday i recieve my new throttle and cable. we unbolt the tank and decided to take it off. i really didnt want to take it off cause i have bad luck or something whenever i put things back together engines never want to act right for me. i was hopeing this time would be different and we take it off. we replace the cables and put everything back on right. go to start it up and it doesnt want to idle right. and everytime i opened the throttle it dies. there is only one way to put on the throttle cables so i know we didnt get it wrong.so we are happy it runs andare really tired so we decide to just close up for the night. sotonight (wednesday)we got to start it up and all it does is crank. will not turn over or even spit or sputter. i even hook up a new battery since i ran mine dry. we took it all apart looked at everything and read through manuals and thread on the forum. the throttle cable opens the butterflies right. all lines are hooked up right. petcock is open and there is gas. i checked the spark and its good. pulled one spark plug out and it looks black but not worn. i am thinking i fouled it so i am going to pic up some new ones just for good measure. i even triedpriming the fuel line with some wd-40 anda lil wd-40 in the intake. nothing. i am guessing it is not getting fuel or i dont know. no kink in lines or anything.
any suggestions or input please. its a 99

all the hoses are hooked up and straight and not kinked.
the idle screw may be one problem. we did play with it on monday when it had a rough idle. i saw it messing with the idle but it didnt helpto muchand it didnt change it as much as it would when the bike is running fine. now yesterday ithought itmay be a problem but i didnt know where the idle screw was at(in terms of how it is messing with the idle).we tried turning the screw both ways andstarting it and it didnt seem to make a difference. does anyone know which way it turning it up and which way turns it down?is there anyway to break it or it not doing its job?

So let me get this right........it ran fine before you unhooked the tank?
If so......then obviously you missed something hooking it back up. If it did NOT run prior to working on it well........it could be a multitude of things........an engine needs3 things to run......fuel/air mixture, spark, and compression.
Lets assume it's still got compression and is more likely than not, receiving the required air.........that leaves spark and fuel.
Which one of those isnt it getting? My first guess would be fuel as that is what you removed.

I had the same issue, kind of.I removed my tank this winter to install an new air filter, and new plugs. After putting it back together it wouldn't start(I had drained the Carb's for winter, so no gas). I took the take off and noticed that I had swapped two lines. there is one small hose that looks like it runs to the crank case, and that is supposed to go to the petcock. Another small hose connects to the bottom side of the tank that is a vent/drain. The problem was the vent hose is bent to look like it should fit on the petcock. With out the hose comming from the crank no gas will come out of the tank. I would double check your hoses before you really start to tear into it.
