can i take my stock set up and make it reverse pattern???? if so how

 

Think the easiest and cheapest way is to fit a shifter from a VFR. All you need is the arm, and then fit it directly to the thingy coming out of the gearbox. Know what I mean?

 

Mine has reverse shifting and it can be changed back to regular shifting too.

I don't know what the owner did to make it reverse-- sorry.

I've never done this on your bike but I've done it on a few others. You probably won't be able to do it for no money but it's not expensive, either

 

The first way is to take the lever off of the transmission shaft and turn it over. Based on the pictures I was able to find of your bike it looks like doing this might make the linkage hit the frame. You might remedy this by flipping the lever around so the angle sticks out rather than in. More flexibility is possible by unscrewing the ball joint from the lever and screwing it in from the other side. To make this method work you may have to bend the linkage rod so that it clears the foot lever and the frame. When I did this on my triumph I didn't want to ruin the original part so I took a piece of stainless rod, bent it to the desired configuration and threaded both ends. This is where you start buying stuff: in addition to the rod you'll need both right and left hand thread dies, or a right hand die and one new ball joint so that they're both threaded the same.

 

For the second way you'll need a one-piece lever from a Japanese motorcycle. Nearly all Japanese motorcycles have transmission shift shafts that are 11mm diameter with 36 splines. Interchangeable across makes and models.

 

The lever is installed pointing backward, which reverses the shift pattern. If you want something that's slick-looking you'll have to do some research and figure out what lever from what bike will work best in your situation. I only care about function so I just buy an old steel one and bend it with a torch until it's where I like it.


It's important to remember with both of these modifications you're reducing the fine adjustment to: single turns of the rod with the first method, and spline positions with the second.
