ive got a 95 900rr and the gas cap is very hard to get open. i have to sit there and mess with it forever before i get the key to turn and unlock it. has anyone had this problem? and does anyone know how to fix this with out putting on a new cap.

 

Bring it to the lock smith and ask him to open it and do some servicing. (Yes they can service the lock).
I had done it with my old bike and it worked perfectly after that.

 

thanks i will try that. it gets frustrating tring to get it open when you are sittin there at a pump to fill up and cant get it open.

 

hahaha tell me about it. Its the strange look from everyone nearby that will make u feel shame till your butt!

 

before you spend the money going to the locksmith try spraying WD40 in where the key goes. I had to do this cause my bike was in the shop for a couple of monthes and it was really sticky. it fixed it for me

 

or you copuld get a non locking aftermarket gas cap..... the only problem you have is some people might put **** in there. I dont leave my bike anywhere some one could do that. Its in my garage or under my butt. When I am at work it sits next to a the guard shack so I fell good about it. Just my $0.02

 

i had thought about a cap like that but i work at the mall and ride it to work sometimes and i dont trust all the people who would have access to it just sittin there for 8 hours a day.

 

powdered graphite, thats the stuff that makes locks really easy to turn and open and close, you can get it at an autoparts store or a locksmith just spray it in and work the lock a few times and it will free everything up. what causes it is that the tumblers get stuck and any lube works but graphite will last years
