Engine lost Compression
Hey, I have a 98 Honda CBR 900 rr and theengine recently lost compression and I am looking into finding a new one for it. If anyone could help i would greatly appricate it. Also any good motercycle mechanic's in the treasure coast floridaarea info would be appricated as well.

PS. I had just been riding the bike, stoped to get gas, and then no compression. It sounds like its not firing on all clyinders and it still runs and will go places - no, i no longer ride it because of this - however with the amazing weather that is soon to come here i want to get my bike back on the road. any help would be great. I have not checked the rings yet, so i am hoping some one can give me other ideas of what may be wrong.

How you really know the engine had lost compression? If you really feel it lacks firing on all the cylinders, then you have to check out the plugs and the cables first. Are there any leaking from the engine?

Yer I think jumping to the no compression conclusion may be a bit premature ?
A compression test will cost you an hours labor at a shop...
( worth it after you check for vac leaks ect... ) and following dinez74 advice as well
There are not many ways to just loose compression in a few seconds except if you hole a piston or drop a valve and those 2 things , you will certainly know about in a hurry ...
Poor valve clearances will cause compression loss , but it will not usually effect the engine all in a few minutes ..
This problem usually causes a slow loss of power over days even weeks ...
Getting clearances checked may cost quite a few bucks but if all else seem ok, it would be worth it..
As the guys have suggested Vac hose definitely will cause it to run like **** instantly ...and like the advice already given you should go right over her and check all lines ... vac + fuel ..
A fuel starvation problem or blockage will also hit the engine like a brick ..
