I bought a 530 chain and have stock sprockets on my 97 which comes with a 525 stock i believe can i use this chain or is it completely different

96-99 uses 525, 93-95 are on 530. It's not just the weight that is different, the pitch of the sprocket teeth are different too. It doesn't seem like it, but getting new sprockets and a new chain together will significantly lengthen the time before you have to replace one or the other again, saving you money in the long run. There's lots of good deals on the 520 conversion kits that include both sprockets and a chain. Maybe sell the 530 and put the money toward a new kit.

Don't even think about putting a new chain on without replacing your sprockets.
