99 motor 96 cluster
hey everyone 1st off lemme say thanks in advance , i come to you from the f3 section
ill miss my f3 but my dream has aways been a blade.
ok just like the title says this bike im looking @ is a 96 but has a 99 motor. as i understand it the 96 used a mechanicel connection to read the speedo, odometer, miles etc. the 99 uses a electrical . is it possible to still use the 96 cluster with the 99 motor. the guy says its as easy as getting the part that bolts into the housing and then plugs into the elctrical plug on the right side.
the bike is a good deal and clean title and really solid. this is the only issue with it . any help would be greatly appreciated !

Hey there Havoc. I went from an F3 to a Blade (even though it was 7 years between the 2). Almost got my Blade ready to ride. It's a 96.
Anyway, to answer your question, the electronic speedometer was used on the 95 to 99 900RR. I would think that the 99 motor should have no effect on the 96 speedometer. As a matter of fact, they are both 919 motors and I think they use the same speedometer sensor, mounted on the cover over the countershaft sprocket.
Good luck with your Blade search!
