Angry 99 900 clutch problems HELP!

Ok probably a basic bit of experince would help me figure this one out. I just replaced the friction discs in the clutch but when I put the cover on I dont think the lever is catching the lifter. if it is geting it then there is no tention to pull the lever back besides the return spring on the out side of the cover. I think the lifter is falling back in the basket when the cover goes on. I noticed the lifter has about 1/8 of a inch that it can fall back from the presure plate. I know I bet you think its put together wrong. maybe, but I have these things rite. 1. The inner most of the basket starts with the friction disc with the bigger I.D. 2. there are 8 friction discs and 7 steel plates stacked alternating and the last one is a disc in the other slot than the rest before the pressure plate. I had people tell me the pressure plate needs to twist locking the 3 teeth to go in. Mine is fixed to the springs so it is always lined up for the teeth to match. the pressure plate sits about flush with the end of the teeth all the way against the last disc. So I guess my questions are should the lifter be snug in the bearing and not be able to slide back in if pushed against? even with the lever disconected there is no pressure like the lifter was pulling to squeze the plate. should there be? And I have looked at the inside of where the lever should catch the lifter and It feels like it is just pushing the lifter in. Should the liftersit all the way in the bearing/ And should the bike be in gear for this or does that matter? Does this all fix its self if i started it. If any one could help I greatley appreciate it.

The lifter has some slop in it when installed. Your 1/8th inch guesstimate sounds about right. From what you describe, everything sounds like it's in there right, so I'm puzzled as to why you have no clutch. When installing the cover, try moving the lever past where it should normall sit (turn it towards rear wheel) and then try pushing cover all the way in while slowly turning lever back towards front of bike. I've had some that were aggravating that way. Nothng wrong with the install, just being a pain to go back together like it should.

Wink

Thanks a lot that worked on the first try. I think i wasted 4 gaskets 2 extra oil fills and 10 to 15 hours of time on what seemed now so easy.
