Got the other front cowl mounted, everything bolts up, all of the mounting points are solid. Have a couple of cracks to plastic weld, but minimal repairs required. Rear plastics are not OEM, will just be using them while I'm trying to sort out how I'm going to get the OEM plastics painted. Took it out for it's first real ride, am still grinning after bombing around on this bike. Now looking for OEM exhaust, as I don't like how the Two Brother system fits on the bike.
Everything looks great. I just started my own ‘94 restomod project.
considering going with 929/954 front end among other non stock changes.
bike was pretty rough to start with, but frame and motor are good.
looking to do the same red/white/blue as your tank has in the background. Is that an original tank or aftermarket decals/paint?
Your project looks great, good luck with it. The tank you're referring to is an original '93 900RR tank. My 94 will be red/white/black. If you're going to go with the 929/954 front end, let me know what you're doing the the '94 front end parts as I need a few items.
Found a '93 tank and rebuilt the '94 carbs, have front plastics all sorted/mounted, now just need to tweak the carbs once I get the new-to-me OEM exhaust installed. I'll ride it like this until I get stickers/paint sorted out...
I had some parts vapor blasted. Came out
like new.
waiting to get wheels back from powder coating and suspension back, had it serviced. Then I’ll start putting it back together less bodywork.
I've been riding the bike occasionally, working out some gremlins with the electrical system. Decided to replace stator and reg/rectifier and related wiring as the problem was sporadic. Opened up the original engine to "borrow" some valve shims for my '93 project, top of the head doesn't appear to be too bad. Also picked up another '93, decided to swap the bodywork onto my '94 so I have a decent looking ride while waiting for paint/decals to get sorted out. I was able to source an OEM exhaust system, need to remove a broken bolt from the muffler and it will be ready to go.
Original 94 engine - top end appears OK New Stator ready to go in New Reg/Rectifier and wiring completed Another 93 project bike Close to road-ready
The 93 parts/project bike wasn't nearly as bad as previous owner stated. Cleaned up a bit of the wiring, fresh plugs, cleaned the carbs, new fuel filter, petcock, starter and a battery and it fired right up. Waiting for a side stand and shock linkage to raise it back to stock height. On the 94, I installed the new-to-me rear fairings, got the carbs dialed in, new windshield on and all of the body panels installed. Runs/rides as good as new, perhaps even better.
