93 cbr900rr idle at 2500/4000rpm in neutral
Hey guys...
so Recently had the bike running but found the battery was dieing due to a faulty regulator rectifier. we didnt get much testing out of it and I bought another regulator and after installing it noticed the idle rpm was 2500, I finally got to drive it around the neighbor hood some and when I would clutch it the bike would idle at 4000 rpm.
Any suggestions on this?
Also I noticed after riding for a while, I got to my house and turned the bike off leaving the key on and the fan continued to run, I let it run for a couple minutes figuring it was just cooling the fluids in the bike, does this go off on its own? is it safe to just turn the key off while the bike is off and fan is running?
this is my first big boy bike lol so be easy on me if these are dumb questions.
Thanks!!

Have you tried to turn down the idle adjustment?
As far as the fan, I always just switch the key off, never turn the bike off at the control. The fan is trying to help keep everything cool since the engine warmed it up, if the engine isn't running the fan doesn't need to be on, it won't get any hotter. Go ahead and switch the key off, I wouldn't worry about it.

Does the idle vary while stopped? And have you had the carbs off yet?. With mine I had an old in-tank filter that was breaking up and slowing clogging up my pilot jets. I'm not saying this is the case with yours, but if just one jet is clogged, the bike's idle will just not be right.
also noticed the speed gauge isnt working, we disconnected the cable and will see if it spins I guess when we ride it.

Next time you have the carbs off, take the float bowls off and remove both the pilot and main jets. And hold them up to the light. If any of the small holes that run down the sides are clogged, then it can cause the idle to run up and down. Just simply blow each one out. And also check each float, making sure it is free to travel. As that also meters your gas flow.
