Question 93' CBR 893 With CBR 954 Front End Conversion

Motorcycle Automotive Tire Automotive Wheel System Fender Fuel tank

This is my 93' CBR 893 with a 954 front end. This blade is a pos I didn't do the conversion myself but I bought the bike. I'd like to get it roadworthy again. There is a lot of forward and backward play in the steering and from the research I've done the 893 and 954 share the same steering bearings but the steering stem may be different lengths? Has anyone done this conversion before?

Ive seen two conflicting comments about this. These are about 919 to 954 front end conversions but from my understanding the 893 and 919 have the same steering stem just different clamps. One says you have to press the 919/983 stem into the 954 clamp.

Another says the conversion was a direct fit.

I should also mention that I think the front forks are leaking maybe indicating that this bike was crashed and damage was done to the front end. If it was crashed, this may be adding to the play In the steering regardless of how the conversion was done.
In conclusion is the 954 front end to 893 a direct fit and my bearings are wore or loose?
Or does the 893 steering stem have to be pressed into the 954 clamp?
Are the 893-919 SC28-SC33 92-97 steering stems all the same? So I could buy one of these model year steering stems and press it into the 954 clamps.
on a side note I know the forks I got were from a 954 but the fork ends are silver in all the pictures I've seen they have been black thoughts on this? Were the painted or maybe even off another bike!

Thanks for the help!
